North Dakota

Greg got a new job!!!
In May Greg started working in a gravel pit in North Dakota. He was gone for 2 weeks, and I stayed behind in Ogden. As you can imagine this was NOT our idea of a good time. He got to come home for almost 2 weeks, but when the time came for Greg to leave again we got a phone call and this time they wanted BOTH of us to come. So with 12 hours notice I quit my job at Seagull Book, we packed what we needed, arranged to be let our lease and left Utah for North Dakota!

One nice thing about it being just Greg and I... there is nothing to hold us anywhere, which makes 12 hours notice moves across the country possible! lol!

So, Greg works in a gravel pit from early in the morning, like 6 or 7ish, until late at night, like 11:30ish. Its great to be here with him though even if he is gone all the time. I spend most of my time doing little reports for the guys (time clock, production, expenditures ect.), cooking, cleaning, reading books and indulging in my new obsession.... Smallvile.
By the trailer looking at the pit.
Zoomed WAY in so you can see our tree friend
in the backgroud

So, just a little run down of how things are in North Dakot, everything here is EXPENSIVE!!! When we go grocery shopping we never seem to come out with much and end up spending a fortune! The cheap milk at Walmart is the same price as gas, $3.69 a gallon. Since Walmart here is always jammed packed, as if someone hung up an "EVERYTHING IS FREE" banner outside, we usually shop at Albertsons. Albertsons is crazy busy like any normal Walmart would be, and at Albertsons the cheap milk is $4.99 per gallon. The prices on virtually everything seem to be inflated this way. The other day I got a 6 pack of jumbo roll TP ..... it was almost $11!!!
Aside from expensive things are really flat here. I've never been somewhere that you can stand outside and look all around you for miles and miles and not see even a glimpse of some sort of mountain, but here that's how it is. We have exactly 1 tree. Okay.. Greg says these giant bush things are trees... but like I said, we have exactly 1 tree!  It is probably 10 or so miles away. When I look out the window over the pit (the gravel pit that is) I can see it way off in the distance. Sometimes I go on a run, and it feels funny to say that I ran half way to the tree and back!

I think the best thing about North Dakota, aside from getting to be with my sweet and wonderful husband, is the sun sets! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves!

I had to get the full horizon to show the effect...
the video dose a much better job.
But the Yellow field is Canola, like what they use to make Canola oil!

Ignor the talking, I was on the phone lol!

All in all we're enjoying life here. We're not sure if this is going to be just a summer thing, or if we're going to make this our lives for the next few years or forever, but I suppose its all part of the adventure! So here's to Williston North Dakota... the next chapter in Our Happily Ever After! : D

  2. Kimber! I am so glad you and Greg get to be together! That's the most important part of being companions.
North Dakota! I hope you guys are enjoying a new scenery. You never know what the future brings. I mean I never ever thought I would be living in Kansas... but here I am!
We are in pretty similar situations.
